2019 GRAD CASSIE KIM LEADS ZAGS TO WCC TEAM TITLE

HENDERSON, Nev. — For the first time in program history, the Gonzaga women's golf team are the West Coast Conference champions. The Bulldogs defeated Pepperdine on a second playoff hole to capture the league's 2021 title at the Reflection Bay Golf Club Saturday. The Zags and Waves both finished at 33-over (897) in the three-day, 54-hole annual tournament. After playing the first playoff hole on 17 square, GU bested the defending champion Waves on the 18th hole. "So proud if the fight in this group," GU Head Coach Brad Rickel said. "We have been chasing this for some time and incredibly satisfying to get it done." Individually, Cassie Kim tied for the second at six-over (222), while Quynn Duong tied for fourth with an eight-over (224) finish. Jessica Mangrobang and Mary Scott Wolfe tied for 10th at 12-over (228). Kim was four-over (76) in the final round with a pair of birdies. She finished with the best average on the course's Par-4 holes at 4.10 (+3) in the 25-golfer field. Mangrobang rose five spots on the leaderboard in the third round. She finished with her third straight round of 76 (+4). She made 15 pars Saturday, and led the tournament with 41. As a team, Gonzaga led the event with 165 pars. The Zags also played the Par-4 holes the best in the tournament with an average of 4.29 (+43). Wolfe was seven-over (79) in the final round with two birdies. Federica Torre climbed three spots on the leaderboard, tying for 20th at 20-over (236). She carded a 77 (+5) in Round 3, with two birdies and 10 pars. Pepperdine's Caroline Hwang took medalist honors, finishing at five-over (221). Teammate Kaleiya Romero also tied for second at six-over (222). The Waves were seeking their 19th team title in the 24 years of the tournament. Gonzaga has placed second three times in the history of the event, the latest in 2016.
